Kokoro

(2024)

Kokoro

––– is a Japanese word that translates to “heart” in English— but its meaning goes beyond the physical organ. It refers to the emotional and spiritual core of a person.

Although our kokoro is always within us, we can sometimes lose touch with it —forgetting to listen, or feeling as if it’s out of reach.

In this piece, a giant flower sculpture represents the heart itself.

Through this visual metaphor, the work invites us to tune into our inner voice,
honor our feelings, and live with honesty and presence.

It is a quiet reminder to return to ourselves.

-Kokoro-

Once you see it, you can’t unnotice it.

The chirping of birds
The soft breeze
Clouds floating in the sky
The sun peeking through the trees.

Stop and smell the flowers
My heart dances at the sight of beauty
My body moves when I follow my heart

It has always been there.

This is real

The real thing

––– it’s a little blurred, and it breathes.
A flower is not just decoration.

It catches the light, sways in the wind, and speaks through its fading.

What we long to touch is not the form, but what pulses beneath it — that it is alive.
