About Ayaki Shinada
Former professional football player
Ayaki Shinada, founder of NORABI, is a former professional football player who played in New York, Barcelona, and Scandinavia. During her athletic career, she was deeply inspired by contemporary art, graffiti, and textiles.
Founding NORABI as an Indigo Dyeing Artist
After retiring in 2020, she turned her focus to Japanese indigo dyeing, drawn to its sustainable, eco-circulating nature that connects art, agriculture, biology, and fashion. She studied traditional fermentation techniques — sho-ai and hon-ai — and launched NORABI in 2022.
In 2023, she established her studio in Oamishirasato City, Japan through crowdfunding. Today, it serves as a sustainable art hub where people from around the world can gather, learn, and create together.
